Wye Valley NHS Trust selects Better Meds
Better has partnered with Epro and Wye Valley NHS Trust to provide the trust with the Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (ePMA) solution, Better Meds. Wye Valley NHS Trust is the 4th UK site to implement Better's medication management system.
Developed and continuously improved in collaboration with pharmacists, nurses, and doctors, Better Meds will ensure the trust and its clinical teams efficiency in prescribing and medicine administration and increase patient safety considerably, and will thereby support the trust's vision of improving the health and well-being of the people they serve. The Hereford-based trust being a GDE site Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust digital fast follower, this also means a significant step forward on their path to the highest possible stage of digital maturity.
When implemented, Better Medsfully supports both simple and more complex medication management scenarios in a simple and easy to use way. Decision support for situations known as "never events", allergies, and dose range, as well as powerful integration options, empowers clinical teams allowing them to improve patient safety, and deliver better and more personalised medical care. The system helps with work prioritisation and improves communication between physicians, nurses, and pharmacists. Furthermore, it provides full access to structured clinical data so that it can be easily exported and used to generate dashboards, discover new knowledge, and create reports to reflect on and optimise workflows.
After University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, and Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, who both already went live in 2019, and also Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust, where the agreement was signed in December 2019, Wye Valley NHS Trust, the first NHS England integrated provider of acute, community and adult social care, is the 4th UK site to implement Better Meds.
Roko Malkoč, Business Unit Manager, Better Meds, commented: "Only by building trust between different stakeholders, we can enable a data-driven revolution where new communities will act as trustees of new technologies and innovation. We are happy to grow a community and start a collaboration with Epro at Wye Valley NHS Trust, where we will together aim to create an environment which maximises patient safety."
David Warden, Associate Director of IM&T at Wye Valley, said: "We are looking forward to working with Epro. Their overall proposal gave us the confidence we are working a clinically led, experienced and agile implementation partner who understands the importance of true interoperability. This was reflected in their combined offer of the Better product, which is tightly integrated with their own clinical modules offering exceptional value for money".
Bob Gilkes, CEO of Epro, commented: "We are excited to be working with Wye Valley. Our experience in implementing clinical software and the usability of Better's Better Meds solution will enable the Trust to provide increased safety for patients, whilst removing both the challenges and risks traditionally associated with paper-based prescribing or standalone disconnected prescribing systems".
