Better wins contract to implement shared care plan solution for OneLondon

Better has been selected as OneLondon’s digital development partner for a new NHS shared care planning solution. The Better Shared Care Planning Application (SCPA) will provide a generic care planning capability to London’s health and care system that includes 40 NHS Trusts and 1,400 general practices that serve a population of 9m people.

The solution will provide the ability to share data in real-time across various health care settings and geographies across the region, whilst enabling the relevant technical capability to provide interoperability with the existing health and care IT systems.

Better’s proven solution underpinned by the open health data platform and low code tools will support the ability to rapidly build dynamic care planning applications. It will reduce duplication, improve accessibility and enable shared care plans for a variety of clinical pathways, including, but not limited to, end of life care. Users will be able to make changes or create new care plans accessible to everyone across London instantly. The solution will provide the region with a consolidated care planning record centred around the patient, ensuring their wishes are consistently met.

The contract, valued at £3.1m, has been awarded for three years (April 2022 to March 2025) initially with an option for two 12-month extensions.

Dr Agnelo Fernandes, GP and chair of the London Clinical Governance Group said: “Following a thorough procurement process the pursuit of an electronic Integrated Care Record for London that is widely interoperable is one step closer. CMC led the way in defining the concept of continuity of clinical information in Care Plans visible to a number of providers. We can now look forward to greater functionality for sharing critical information to enhance patient care in supporting the management of long term conditions, Integrated Urgent Care and End of Life Care.”

Dr Naz Jivani, GP and SWL CCG Governing Body member said: “CMC has provided a strong foundation for London to create Advanced Care Plans for our Population. The recent successful procurement process has created the opportunity for us, in London, to take the next step in the development, interoperability and function of these plans. I am personally looking forward to this exciting new phase of the creation of Advanced Care Plans.”

Matt Cox, Managing Director of Better UK said:  “We are really pleased to have been selected as London’s technology partner to help transform care planning across London. Establishing a platform of persistent data with openEHR coupled with a low code environment for health and care professionals to dynamically evolve digital care planning services will really help support Londoners, their families and professionals alike.”
